Local Dining Rappahannock and nearby counties offer a range of dining options. This partial list includes some of our favorites.
Thornton River Grille The Thornton River Grille is just across the street from Hopkins Ordinary. The menu is creative; the atmosphere is casual. The grill specializes in steaks, but also offers seafood, poultry, and vegetarian dishes. When the weather cooperates, there is outdoor seating on the back deck until sundown. Reservations for indoor dining are strongly recommended.
Rudy’s Pizza
Rudy’s is across the street from Hopkins Ordinary, and offers primarily take-out pizzas. There are a few small tables if you want to eat in.
Inn at Little Washington The Inn at Little Washington, six miles away, is widely recognized as one of the finest restaurants in the world. Executive chef and proprietor Patrick O’Connell has won the James Beard “Chef of the Year” Award and is considered one of America’s most innovative chefs. Make your reservations well in advance.
Griffin Tavern An English-style pub with a good selection of draft beers and pub food in a beautifully renovated home in nearby Flint Hill. Reservations not accepted for parties of five or fewer. Live music on weekends; Thursday night is Trivia Night and Tuesday night is Chess Night.
24 Crows
Light breakfast and lunch with homemade desserts and unusual ice creams are served in this eclectic shop in Flint Hill, just 15 minutes away.
Foti's Foti's, in nearby Culpeper, offers excellent, creative meals in an understated dining room. Opened by alumni of the Inn at Little Washington, Foti’s offers a delicious dining experience. Reservations recommended.
Apartment 2g Apartment 2g, 30 minutes away in Front Royal, offers a prix fixe menu on weekends, and their bistro, Element, is open five days a week. One of our favorite spots. Reservations recommended.
Claire’s
This elegant restaurant in Warrenton (30 minutes away) offers a nice selection of seafood and other dishes. We have never been disappointed. Reservations recommended.
Iron Bridge Wine Bar
Open 7 days a week, this wine bar in Warrenton is a nice option for a casual meal any night of the week.
